Got Drunk

 

Caught at a time of weakness, 

a moment of desperation,

I could have walked into the sea,

never looking back, but instead;

I got drunk!

Every day was nothing but hurt, 

Walking around in an old worn shirt,

I had let myself go without any treasure

no self respect of any measure - so instead;

I got drunk

I did not want to fall in love,

I met you on equal terms, 

it was such good fun, with none of the burns

beautiful to the core, I felt such a bore;

So; I got drunk 

As time passed we met headstrong,

I felt strange and did not belong,

still the addiction of you, took a hold

now feeling stronger and bold, celebrating;

I got drunk 

Years have passed. I never knew we would last, 

Yet a strength exists that I have found in you,

looking smart in special shoes, 

We wed, then we danced, joy with you - then;

We got drunk
